a quick comment on Trillanes and his revolt

i'll just make a brief comment on yesterday's events since i need to get back to work! (despite the November 30 holiday) =(

Trillanes explained that the revolt was his "moral obligation" to the Filipino people. f*cking bullsh*t! Trillanes has always had his own political agenda; his personal gain is always at the forefront of his actions. just a quick look into his military career will show that (i will not expound on this but you can give me a call if you want to know how he really was in the military). unfortunately, i believe we will have to reckon with Trillanes for the coming years. he is young and has a whole political career laid out for him. as seen yesterday, he's slowly building his base as other influential individuals are aligning themselves with him. hopefully, yesterday's events have tarnished Trillanes' image. hopefully, the Filipino people will become wiser in their choices in the coming years.

Trillanes appealed to the Filipino people to come out onto the streets and join him in calling for GMA's resignation. fortunately, we have matured as a people. there are constitutional means to correct an erring government. we do not have to call for people power everytime there is a problem. i'm glad that despite yesterday's events, our economy was ablt to bounce back. the Philippine Peso did come out higher and stocks were as strong as ever.

i am not pro-GMA and neither am i anti-GMA. however, former president Fidel Ramos was correct when he said that GMA is our best option at this moment.

finally, just a comment on the imposed curfew and the arrests of members of the media. i do believe the curfew was necessary. there was a grave threat to the Philippine government and society as whole. follow-up operations were needed to ensure the safety of our citizens. despite that, Marine Captain Nicanor Faeldon managed to escape by posing as a media man. now there is a nation-wide manhunt for him and 2 other rebels.

consequently, it was NECESSARY to process the members of the media to ensure that there were no rebels amongst them. however, it was UNNECESSARY to arrest and detain them in Bicutan. placing them in handcuffs and confiscating their equipment was overkill. a simple processing in the lobby of the Manila Peninsula would have done the job...

oh darn. looks like i wrote more than i wanted to. so much for my attempt at brevity. back to work!
